Curious about who we are and why we do what we do? Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions….
Why AI?
Since artificial intelligences (AIs) such as DALL-E and Midjourney exploded on social media earlier in 2022, thousands of people have started experimenting with the kind of content that they can create with these new open technologies. Usually this involves typing in some random funny prompts and seeing what crazy images will pop out the other end, having a laugh, and moving on with life. One person submitted their AI-generated work to art competitions and won. Others have been featured in mainstream shows such as John Oliver’s Last Week Tongight on HBO.
We wanted to do something more with this technology by exploring how it could be used and where AI generated content could be applied. Specifically, we want to explore its capabilities and see if AI-generated content can be put to use towards a specific purpose or goal that can eventually be commercialized. Our focus is on using Stable Diffusion for images and GPT-3 from OpenAI for text generation.
Why are you writing AI guides?
AI technology is evolving and improving at lightning speed! New versions, models and extensions are constantly being released to extend AI capabilities, and many of those are not well documented outside of forums, Github and Discord servers. As we tried to learn and experiment with these technologies ourselves, we also found that there is quite a lot of misinformation and confusion about what even the most basic settings in these AIs actually do. Online guides that we tried to follow when installing AI models on our own platform were frequently wrong or accurate only for very specific versions. Since we want the AI open source community and users in general to flourish, we decided to write our own guides and articles to help and give back to those communities.
What’s up with the short stories?
The short answer is that we felt that if we’re going to be experimenting with and learning AI technologies, we might as well apply them to fun projects that we are personally interested in. Since we’re a fan of short form literature, we decided that fairy tales and bedtime stories would be a fun way to combine content generated by Stable Diffusion and GPT. Also, the book publishing industry as a whole could really benefit from the use of AI tools. That topic is a whole article in of itself.
Who are you?
We’re just a couple of enthusiasts who have fallen in love over this technology and want to see where it will eventually take us. Alex Inglewood is a pen name for publishing articles, guides and short stories.
